Tenecor FAQ
What is the difference between a Simplicity Plus and a Marine Ready
aquarium?
The Simplicity Plus fish aquarium is our Internal Filtration system located entirely in the tank. In the Marine Ready
aquarium, the filtration occurs in an external wet-dry filter, usually located in the aquarium stand.
What is a Show aquarium?
A Show aquarium has filter slots for hang-on or canister filters along the tank
back wall and is sold without a life support system.
What is a Show tank with pre-filter?
This is the classic Show aquarium with a pre-filter built into the tank. The pre-filter plumbing is then hooked
up to a filtration
system which you provide. If you want a "ready-to-run" system complete with plumbing, filter and pump(s) you
should consider our Marine Ready aquarium
What is a Protein Skimmer and why should I consider buying one?
A Protein skimmer is a pump/aerator device used to remove proteins and organic material from salt water.
This is essential in controlling algae and to reduce excessive organic waste, particularly in a coral reef aquarium.
If I buy a Marine Ready aquarium, does it come with a Stand & Canopy
and lights?
A Marine Ready aquarium, purchased by itself includes the aquarium,
internal pre-filter and wet-dry filtration system. The stand/canopy and lights
are purchased separately. You can do this in our Build Your Own Aquarium
on-line store or through one of Tenecor's sales representatives. Some of the
most popular models of our Marine Ready aquariums are available as a complete
package, which includes the aquarium with filtration, furniture and lighting.
These are available in our Package Aquarium Builder on-line store or by calling
a Tenecor sales representative.
What exactly is included in our Marine Ready aquarium?
Our Marine Ready package includes the aquarium, pre filter(s), plumbing fixtures, external wet-dry filter,
bio-media and pump(s).
Additional components can be added by the customer.
Do your Canopies come complete with lights?
Lighting is typically sold as an option. In our Build Your Aquarium on-line store you are given the option
to purchase the lighting which goes with the fish tank and canopy
you are purchasing. In the Aquarium Package store, appropriate aquarium lighting is included with your Aquarium Package.
What kind of filters do you offer?
We offer a variety of internal and external wet-dry filtration systems with up to 1200 gallon capacity,
depending upon the individual tank requirements. We can also custom build filters, refugiums and sumps to
your specifications.
What is a pre-filter?
Typically, a pre-filter is a box inside the aquarium that skims water from the surface of the tank to initiate
the filtration process. This device also minimizes the drainage from the aquarium preventing water damage
in the event of a power failure. All standard pre-filters in Tenecor aquarium are inside the fish tank.
In certain situations the pre-filter box may be placed on the outside of the aquarium. This is always a custom application.
Does Tenecor ever sell "used" aquariums?
No. Tenecor does not buy or sell "used" aquariums.
Does Tenecor have a brochure or price list that they can send me?
Tenecor does not publish catalogues, brochures or price lists in printed form.
This website is the most comprehensive information available on our products and prices. Our Aquarium Information library contains
downloadable versions of a price list and manuals.
Does Tenecor have any Aquariums in stock?
Every Tenecor Aquarium (standard and custom) is 'Built-to-Order' and usually takes 2 to 4 weeks to manufacture.
Where can I go to view a Tenecor Aquarium before I make my purchase?
Tenecor has aquarium dealers throughout the United States and in many foreign countries. Please call us to
find a dealer in your area.
Why are acrylic aquariums so much more costly than glass ones?
Acrylic aquariums (on average) can cost more than glass particularly in the smaller sizes.
However, the cost difference diminishes in the larger models. I addition, acrylic tanks easily justify
increased value due to their clarity, strength, reduced weight, superior thermal properties and
ability to be fabricated into many configurations.
Can I purchase my Aquarium without an acrylic top or larger access openings?
All acrylic aquariums require minimum perimeter bracing to maintain water holding integrity.
The access openings in the top of a Tenecor acrylic aquarium are engineered to provide structural integrity to the tank.
As a custom application we can design a tank top with larger openings or a "Euro-brace" style aquarium.
Please call a Tenecor sales representative to discuss the options that might be available for your application.
How often does the water need to be changed?
Water changes in a fish tank depend on organic load of your aquarium. However, as a "rule of thumb" a monthly water change of
10% to 20% of the aquarium volume
is recommended.
What are your standard recommendations for a lighting system?
There are many ways of gauging needed lighting. One "rule of thumb" is average 1 to 4 watts per gallon,
depending upon the environment and specific livestock in the tank.
Do I need to add additional filtration to either of your life-support components in order to keep
my water really clean?
All Tenecor filtration systems are engineered to maintain a healthy environment as long as the recommended fish
loading is maintained. However, most systems have the flexibility to add additional components if you wish.
Am I required to purchase one of your stands or can I place my aquarium on a different base?
You can use your own stand if it supports the aquarium through the entire bottom, is flat and level. In addition, it should be
is structurally adequate to
support the weight of the aquarium when filled with water.
Can I order a stand/canopy in a different color scheme than the ones offered on your web site?
Yes. We do offer the option of custom colors at a slight up-charge. Custom colors cannot be ordered in our
on-line aquarium stores. If this is needed for you application please call a Tenecor sales representative.
Does Tenecor come to my home/office and install the aquarium?
Tenecor currently does not install aquariums, however we will recommend a local service dealer
in your area who can assist you.
If there is not a local dealer in my area, who can I turn to if I have a problem?
You can always contact Tenecor directly for assistance at 602-437-4373 and our staff will be happy to help you.
