Tenecor Standard Acrylic Aquarium Buyers Guide: Acrylic Aquarium Sizes
Size can refer to either the footprint or space taken up by the acrylic aquarium or size can be in reference to gallons of water the aquarium holds.
The dimensions (length, width, and height) of the acrylic tank and
aquarium furniture are an important factor in the gallon size, space/location
requirements and life support (filtration and lighting) requirements.
- For "against a wall" type fish tanks such as the Rectangular, Flat Back
Hexagon, Bow Front/Teneview, and Half Cylinder the length (L) is the left-to-right dimension when viewing the longest side of an aquarium
while width (W) is the front-to-back dimension at the widest point.
This is illustrated below by using the Flat Back Hexagon as an example.
- For "corner" style aquariums such as the Pentagon,
Quarter Cylinder, L-Shape and Vista and Height the length (L) as well as
width (W) is the length of the two sides that fit in the corner. This is
illustrated below by using the Pentagon as an example.
- For Cylinder and Hexagon aquariums the length or width is
equivalent to the diameter or "across" dimension of the tank. This is
illustrated below by using the Hexagon as an example.
Height (H) is the
up-down
dimension or "tallness" of the aquarium.
The above dimensions refer to the aquarium; the stand and canopy will be
similar shaped and in most cases 1" to 2" larger
than the aquarium in length and width. You should also take into account the
height of the stand and canopy which are approximately 30" and 7" respectively,
in determining whether the aquarium setup will fit into the space you are
considering.
